The NRA Anti-Obama Ad

If you live outside of the USA you may not have seen this television ad paid for by the National Rifle Association.

It's tantamount to a declaration of war on the issue of gun control. What this means is that there is no compromise or middle ground with these people. I hope Obama accepts the challenge and takes on the gun lobby. Last I heard, they were not a democratically elected part of the legislature.

BTW, if members of the NRA are really interested in protecting their children from the risk of being killed by guns then they should send them to school in the UK. Even Canada would be better.

Here's another version of the ad.

What the Lanza Lobby lacks in compassion for dead kids, they make up for with loud whooshing sounds! Whoosh! Obama's elitist! Whoosh!

I would defend responsible gun ownership, that people should be allowed to shoot for sport and recreation provided it can be done without posing undue risk to the rest of the population. I'm not a member of the NRA, however, and this sort of ad is only persuading me not to join. It looks too much like a bunch of Old White Guys pandering to the more yahooish wing of the movement. It also has a nasty undertone of racism.

I think this and LaPierre's initial press conference have been public relations disasters. The NRA is acting like a Tea Party Packing Heat. The way they're going it's only a matter of time before we see Sarah Palin brandishing her rifle and doing an impression of Charlton Heston.
